Arizona Tennis Squads Advance to WTT National Championships

TUCSON, Ariz. - The Arizona men's and women's squads defeated St. Mary's, 30-16, in the WingspanBank.com World Team Tennis Regionals Friday at the Robson Tennis Center.

Arizona's four player coed team of junior Steven Capriati, freshman Carl Hagman, junior Sophie Regnier and freshman Perrine Pernin advanced to the 16-squad national championships to be held in the fall.

WTT scoring is based on five matches men's doubles, women's doubles, men's singles, women's singles and mixed doubles. Each match is awarded to the first opponent to win six games. UA won all five matches, bringing its total to 30 points.

The Gaels accounted for their points winning 16 games in the five matches.

The Arizona men's team will return to action this weekend when it plays host to New Mexico State on Saturday, at 1:30 p.m. MST, at the Robson Tennis Center.

The Wildcat women's team will begin its spring schedule with a pair of conference matches on the road against UCLA and Southern California on Jan. 26 and 27.
