TUCSON - Senior middle hitter Kari DeSoto recorded 18 kills and six blocks leading Cal Ploy to a 15-7, 15-8, 15-2 sweep of Texas-El Paso in the opening match of the Starwoods Plaza Hotel Thanksgiving Invitational in Tucson Friday afternoon.

With the win, Cal Poly improved to 20-7, while UTEP dropped to 5-23.

DeSoto was joined in double figures in kills by junior outside hitter Melanie Hathaway, who had 13 kills and 11 digs. The Mustangs hit .301 for the match and held the Miners to an .078 mark.

Junior outside hitter Natalie Marquell had 10 kills and 10 digs for UTEP.

In tonight's second match, No. 19 Arizona (18-9) plays host to third-ranked Hawaii (25-1) at 7 p.m.
