Palo Alto, Calif. - The University of Arizona men's golf team is tied for eighth place after the first round of the Nelson Invitational, which is being held at the Stanford Golf Course (par-71, 6,756 yards). The Wildcats are tied with Fresno State with a 5-over-par 289 total.

Colorado State leads the field with an even-par 284, while Colorado and Northwestern are tied for second at 285. Washington is fourth at 286.

Individually, Tulsa's Martin Maritz is in first place after shooting a 4-under-par 67. He holds a one-shot lead over Arizona's Derek Gillespie, Jess Daley from Northwestern and TCU's Aaron Hickman who are each at 3-under-par 68.

The rest of the Arizona lineup is led by Ricky Barnes who is tied for 15th at even-par 71. Patrick Norris is tied for 36th after shooting a 2-over-par 73, Reid Hatley is tied for 78th at 6-over-par 77 and Cody Beyer is tied for 85th at 7-over-par 78.
