The University of Arizona football team drew closer to the end of its 2000 spring practice Saturday with the annual spring football game at Arizona Stadium.

Sophomore Bobby Wade had the biggest impact on the game, on both sides of the ball. Wade, who was the team's No. 2 receiver last season, caught three passes for 41 yards. He also saw considerable action on the defensive side of the ball at cornerback. Wade intercepted a pass from sophomore transfer Erik Garcia and returned a fumbled pitch 83 yards for a touchdown.

Redshirt freshman Gary Love opened up the game with a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in a live special teams drill. Love would also catch two passes for 41 yards in the scrimmage that lasted about two hours.

Senior quarterback Ortege Jenkins looked solid in action with the first-string offense. Jenkins completed 6-of-9 passes for 92 yards and an 8-yard touchdown strike to redshirt freshman Andrae Thurman.

Sophomore Leo Mills scored the lone rushing touchdown of the game, a one-yard dive. He finished with 23 yards on nine carries. Senior Leon Callen was the to rusher of the day, picking up 31 yards on seven carries. Sophomore Larry Croom gained 17 yards on six carries.

Thurman also caught a 47-yard touchdown from redshirt freshman Cliff Watkins late in the scrimmage. He finished with 55 yards on two receptions, both for touchdowns. Watkins completed 2-of-3 passes for 57 yards. Sophomore Jason Johnson completed 2-of-2 for 20 yards.
