University of Arizona sophomore swimmer Amanda Beard won a bronze medal Thursday in the 200-meter breaststroke at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia.

Beard, who won a gold medal as a member of the 400m relay team in 1996 and was a double silver medalist in the 100m breaststroke and 200m breaststroke in the same Olympics, earned the fourth Olympic medal of her career with Thursday's swim.

She finished in 2 minutes, 25.35 seconds, placing third behind Hungary's Agnes Kovacs and the United States' Kristy Kowal. Kovacs was exactly one second ahead of Beard in 2:24.35 for the gold. Kowal swam 2:24.56 to win the silver.
