First-year Arizona women's tennis coach Brad Dancer has hired Alabama coach Kevin Epley as his top assistant, rounding out a talented staff with volunteer assistant Vicky Maes.

A native of Baltimore, Epley graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1995 where he earned All-Southwest Conference honors and was a two-time Commissioner's Honor Roll selection.

Since graduating from SMU, Epley has been heavily involved in women's professional tennis, serving as an assistant under Billie Jean King for the Fed Cup Team, the women's equivalent of the Davis Cup. As part of his involvement in the professional tennis arena, Epley has worked with such top players as Lindsay Davenport, Monica Seles, Mary Joe Fernandez and Venus and Serena Williams. Over the summer, Epley also traveled with Patty Schnyder, a top 10 player on the women's tennis circuit.

Last year, he garnered experience at the collegiate level serving as an assistant at Alabama.

"I feel extremely fortunate to work with a good friend as well as one of the most qualified coaches in the U.S., " Dancer said. "His experience and passion for teaching will raise the level of our staff to new heights."
