TUCSON, Ariz. (Apr. 6, 2001) -- The 48th-ranked University of Arizona men's tennis team (11-6 overall, 2-5 Pac-10) upset 12th-ranked Washington, 4-3, on Friday, April 6, at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
In doubles play, the Huskies won two out of the three matches earning the doubles point. The Wildcat's lone doubles win came at the No. 1 spot. The duo of junior Steven Capriati and freshman Carl Hagman defeated No. 58 Jeremy Berman and Andy Posavac, 9-8(4).
In singles play, the Cat's won four out of five matches. Capriati defeated No. 53 Matt Hanlin, 6-3, 6-4. At the sixth position, junior Bruno Aropovic earned a win against Marius Lunde. Freshman Whi Kim's win over 86th-ranked Jeremy Berman, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3, marks his third consecutive win. Hagman clinched the match for the cat's with his victory over 45th-ranked Andrej Bizjok, 2-6, 6-3, 7-5. This is Hagman's third consecutive win over a ranked player.
The Wildcats play Oregon on Saturday, April 7, at 1:00 p.m. at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
