Cats Boast Two of Top Three Individuals; Baena is No. 1 and Ochoa is No. 3

Tucson, Ariz. - Following a second-place finish in the NCAA Fall Preview and a five-stroke victory at the Comcast/Dick McGuire Invitational, the Arizona women's golf team remains ranked No. 1 by the College Golf Foundation.

Junior Cristina Baena moves into the No. 1 spot from her preseason ranking of No. 2. Arizona freshman Lorena Ochoa makes her first appearance in the collegiate poll at No. 3.

Baena earned a third-place finish at the NCAA Fall Preview and was runner-up to teammate Lorena Ochoa at the Comcast/Dick McGuire Invitational. Ochoa was dominant while taking home medalist honors at the Comcast/Dick McGuire Invitational as she was the only golfer to finish the tournament under par with a seven-under-par 212. Ochoa leads the squad with a 72.2 stroke average, and Baena's average is 73.2.

Also ranked individually for the Wildcats is sophomore Julia Kraschinski at No. 18. Kraschinski who finished second at last year's NCAA Championships, has not competed yet this year due to a back injury.

The Wildcats garnered 316 votes, 20 more than No. 2 Duke. Southern California, Tennessee, and Stanford round out the top five.

The MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings, administered by the College Golf Foundation in cooperation with the National Golf Coaches Association, are the official rankings of the Rolex Collegiate Tour. The voting is done by a panel of women's collegiate golf coaches. The next edition of the polls will be released on Nov. 1.

Arizona continues its fall schedule on Oct. 20 at the Stanford/Pepsi Invitational.
