Women's Golf In Eighth Thru 2 Rounds

TULSA, Okla. (May 20) - After shooting a 23-over-par 307 today, the Arizona women's golf team fell to eighth place at the 1999 NCAA Women's Golf Championships, which are being held at the Tulsa Country Club (Par-71, 6,022 yards). The Wildcats' two-day total now stands at 44-over-par 612 and they are 15 shots behind first place Duke, who maintained the lead it brought into today's action. The Blue Devils round of 309 today was 21 shots more than yesterday's 288, and as a result, they saw their first round lead sliced in half to just six strokes. Pepperdine is now in second at 603, followed by third place Georgia (604) and USC and Texas, who are both tied for fourth at 607.

Stanford is in sixth at 608 and Arizona State, who was in second place going into the day, fell to seventh with a 609, just three shots better than Arizona.

Individually, Arizona State's Grace Park remains atop the leaderboard at even-par 142 and will take a one shot lead over Duke Candy Hannemann (143) into tomorrow's third round. Texas' Randi Meadows is in third at 2-over-par 144 and there is a two-way tie for fourth between USC's Jennifer Rosales and Pepperdine's Tamie Durdin at 146.

Arizona's top golfer on the leaderboard is senior Krissie Register, who has moved up from a tie 24th and into a four-way tie for 12th at 8-over-par 150. Eight shots off the lead after 36 holes, Register shot a 74 today, improving on yesterday's 76.

Following her is Jenna Daniels, who is in a three-way tie for 22nd at 10-over-par 152 after carding a 76 for the second consecutive day. Jill Gomric, who shot a 77 again today, moved up from 40th and into a nine-way tie for 29th at 12-over-par 154. The rest of the Arizona lineup included Christina Monterio, who is tied for 45th at 156 (76-80) and Cristina Baena, who is tied for 68th at 159 (79-80).
