Berkeley, Calif. (Oct. 22) -- The University of Arizona women's soccer team was shutout for the second time in as many matches by No. 8 California, 2-0, in Berkeley on Sunday. The Cats have been shutout in four of their last five games.
The Golden Bears notched both goals in the first 25 minutes of the match, and neither team scored for the remainder of the game.
Cal outshot Arizona, 15-7, for the match. UA freshman Liz Bartlett had a game-high-tying three shots for the game, while Twila Kaufman, Sierra Cristiano, Tiffany Sabado and Katie Winship logged one shot apiece. Wildcat goalkeepers Shannon Monti and Inger Airheart shared time in the nets, with Monti collecting five saves while giving up both goals and Airheart registering one save.
On a six-game winless streak, Arizona now stands at 3-11-2 overall and 0-5-1 in Pac-10 play. California improves to 14-1-1 overall and 4-1-0 in conference action.
In the midst of a three-game road swing, the Wildcats head up the road to face rival Arizona State on Thursday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. in Tempe.
