TUCSON, Ariz. - Arizona's women's golf team moved into first place at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Rainbow Invitational on Wednesday with a second round of 294. The Wildcats, 594 as a team, hold a seven stroke lead over second-place Oklahoma State, 601.
Freshman Natalie Gulbis matched her opening round score of 71 to earn a tie for the individual lead with Christi Cano of Oklahoma State at two under-par. Also in the top five for the Wildcats is sophomore Laura Myerscough, who is tied for third after firing a second-round 71. Myerscough is at 146 (+2) for the tournament. Myerscough's highest finish of the season is a sixth-place showing at the Comcast/Dick McGuire Invitational.
Junior Cristina Baena is tied for 12th after a second round of 78. She sits at seven over-par for the tournament. Sophomore Anne Lee carded a two over-par 74 in Wednesday's second round to move into a tie for 29th place. Rounding out the Wildcats lineup is sophomore Julia Kraschinski who is tied for 66th place at 163 for the tournament. Kraschinski is competing in just her second tournament of the season after suffering from back injuries.
The third and final round of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Rainbow Invitational is tomorrow, beginning with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start. Arizona is seeking its fifth tournament championship of the season and its third consecutive title.
