FLAGSTAFF -- Andre Luciano (pronounced loo-chee-ah-no), assistant coach at Arizona, was named head coach of the women's soccer program at Northern Arizona, Athletics Director Steve Holton announced Wednesday.

"This is a dream come true for me," said Luciano. "I've waited four and half years for this position. I'm really excited about being in Flagstaff and the Big Sky Conference. I think we have a solid foundation to work with and I look forward to winning a Big Sky Championship."

Luciano spent the past two seasons in Tucson, Ariz., as the recruiting coordinator for Wildcats' program. Luciano was involved in all areas of tactical and technical training of the Arizona program.

Prior to coming to Arizona, Luciano was an assistant with Utah State. He also spent two seasons with the Washington State program where he worked with the goalkeepers.

Luciano was a two-year letterman at Indiana. During his time in Bloomington, the Hoosiers won two Big Ten championships, made two NCAA Elite Eight appearances and one Final Four appearance. Both seasons Luciano ranked among the nation's top-10 in goals-against average and was named the 1991 Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year.

"We're excited to be getting a person who has an incredible background as a coach and player," said Holton. "He is very familiar with Arizona, California and Nevada which are areas that we recruit heavily and we will continue to want to recruit heavily. We are very excited to get someone with strong coaching credentials and also is a strong recruiter."

The Lumberjack soccer team posted a 7-14-0 record in 2000 and returned to the Big Sky Conference finals for a second consecutive season.
