LINCOLN, Neb.- The second seeded Arizona volleyball team continued its winning ways Friday afternoon, downing the No. 3 seed BYU 15-6, 15-6, 15-9 in the Central Region semifinal at NU Coliseum in Lincoln, Neb. The Wildcats have now swept all three matches in the 2000 NCAA Tournament and have advanced to play in their first-ever regional final. Head coach David Rubio has led the Wildcats to four regional semifinals and the school has been eight times total in its history before breaking through into the regional finals. The Cats will take on the winner of the Ohio State-Nebraska match that followed the UA victory.

As a team, Arizona collected 52 kills on 111 attempts while committing only 15 errors against the Cougars, a .333 attack percentage. The Wildcats also had five service aces to BYU's zero.

"We played very well tonight," head coach David Rubio said. "I was impressed with the level of intensity our players had and how well prepared they were for the match. I thought we were very relaxed, which I think was one of the most important things when we came into the match."

UA started games one and two on 3-0 runs and would never look back, recording nearly identical numbers in 15-6, 15-6 wins. The Wildcats hit .344 in the first stanza and .345 in the second, collecting 16 and 14 kills, respectively. Senior Allison Napier picked up 12 of her match high 18 kills in the two games.

Game three started with a 3-0 UA run, which led to an 8-3 Arizona advantage. The Cougars would not go quietly, starting a 5-0 run to even the third game at eight and held tight at 9-9 before two Cougar attack errors and five Arizona kills handed the match to the Wildcats.

Joining Napier individually was Dana Burkholder and Jill Talbot. Burkholder dished out 36 assists while chipping in with 11 digs and seven kills. Talbot had 10 kills on .474 hitting and 10 digs.

Notes: Arizona tied a 22-year old school record with the victory over BYU. The 2000 team improved its record to 28-4 overall, tying the 1978 squad for most victories in a single season. The '78 team finished the season 28-15 overall.

Dana Burkholder broke Arizona's single-season assist mark with her 13th assist in the first game against BYU. The Bakersfield, Calif., native has 1,502 assists on the season eclipsing Heather McCormack's 1,478 she had in 1990. Burkholder (4,008) needs only 17 more assists to move past Laura Bartsch (4,024) into first place on the career list.
