Tucson, Ariz. (Oct. 9) The University of Arizona women's basketball team will conduct its first official practice of the 2000-2001 season on Saturday, Oct. 14, from 9-11:30 a.m. in the McKale Center. The public is invited to attend this open practice, as are all members of the media.

Several Wildcats have been hit by injuries already this year. Junior guard Julie Brase had right wrist surgery late in September and could be out of action until late November. Freshman guard Jen Chesney had left ankle surgery in August and has been progressing well in rehabilitation, but she may not be able to participate fully in practices for a few weeks. Freshman guard Candice Allen fractured a rib during a preseason pick-up game in late September, and her status is undetermined.

The 2001 Wildcats return eight players, including two starters, from last year's record-breaking 25-7 team. The squad will compete in a trio of exhibition games before officially tipping-off the season. The first of these exhibitions will be the annual Red & Blue Game on Monday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. in the McKale Center.
