Sibenik, Croatia (July 26) - In her best performance so far with the USA Young Women National Team, University of Arizona women's basketball player Shawntinice Polk ripped off 13 points and six rebounds as the USA (2-0) pounded South Korea (0-2), 95-46, at the 2003 FIBA World Championship for Young Women in Sibenik, Croatia, on Saturday.

Shooting a sizzling 6-for-7 from the floor, Polk needed just 17 minutes of action to rack up 13 points, her first double-digit scoring performance since joining the USA Young Women. She also was credited with a game-high six steals.

"They (South Korea) were a really good team. They're very aggressive, and they never gave up," said Polk. "That's what you have to learn -- in international ball nobody ever gives up, no matter how much you're up or how much you're down. It was tough for us to start, but once we got our rhythm we were in it, but they never gave up today."

UC Santa Barbara's Kristen Mann led the U.S. team with game highs of 16 points and eight rebounds off the bench. Ohio State's Caity Matter was the only other player to reach double figures, also subbing-in to score 15. The U.S. bench combined for 61 points in the game. The squad as a whole dominated its opponent on the boards, out-rebounding South Korea by a whopping 51-11 spread.

The Americans continue 2003 FIBA World Championship For Young Women play on Sunday, July 27, at 7:30 a.m. Tucson time against Brazil (1-0), which was scheduled to face France (0-1) on Saturday evening.
