Arizona Head Coach Sean Miller

Opening statement

"I'm excited to be here at Pac-10 Media Day. Everybody keeps asking why I left Xavier. To coach in a Conference that takes a back seat to nobody is an excellent opportunity. The success the [Pac-10] teams have had in the NCAA Tournament and the success of the coaches, is a tremendous honor and in particular coaching at Arizona with all the success they have had.

Player inexperience is a reality with five freshmen and four sophomores. When you look at the upperclassmen, Nic Wise is playing for his fourth coach in four years and Jamelle Horne is playing for his third coach in three years. It's baby steps with this year's team. We have gotten better the first 10 days. We are behind the learning curve especially from where I came from, but I am pleased with the progress that we have made."

Thoughts on Nic Wise returning.

"Nic Wise has been terrific. He came back for all the right reason and has the opportunity to graduate. Our style of play really fits him well and should benefit him. He has one of the hardest jobs a student-athlete can have, to leader nine freshmen and sophomores while learning a new system. He's in great physical shape. I expect him to be more vocal on and off the court and try to bring his teammates along."

What is Wise's injury update?

"His injury is day-to-day. We are giving him today off and through the weekend to rest him. We anticipate him to be back early next week, possibly this weekend. "

Talk about the freshmen.

"I'm impressed with Derrick Williams and his body. He is physically bigger than most freshmen. He's not a rail thin freshman that needs two year to develop his body. He is coachable and has a great future. He can shoot the ball and put it on the floor. More than any single player, his December will be better than November and his January will be a far cry from December.

When you become a new coach you get players from everywhere. [Lamont] Jones is a 2-guard who will play with Nic. He is confident and believes in his game. Solomon Hill has had to change his body. He was 240 when he stepped foot on campus and now is 225. As his body has changed, he can put the ball on the floor, make good passes, and is a smart player."
