NEW YORK--Arizona sophomore tight end Rob Gronkowski was named to the Associated Press third-team All-America team.
Gronkowski, the UA records holder for single game, single season and career figures in tight end receptions, yards and touchdowns, joins recent Wildcats Antoine Cason (CB, 2007, 1st team), Danny Baugher (P, 2005, 3rd team), Dennis Northcutt (WR, 1999, 1st team) and Trung Canidate (B, 1999, 3rd team) in being honored by the nation's football media.
Gronkowski was a unanimous first-team All-Pac-10 selection after his 43-catch, 645-yard, 10-touchdown season this year. He had single game highs of 12 receptions for 143 yards at Oregon and three touchdowns against Washington.
The 6-foot-6 sophomore is expected to be some focus for quarterback Willie Tuitama in Arizona's challenge against No. 17 BYU (10-2) in Saturday's Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl. The team is in Las Vegas working out for the Wildcats' first bowl appearance since 1998.
