Head Coach Lute Olson

“I think it is and always is important and has so much to do with how you come out and what position you get into. Our guys were focused that was good. Our defense was tough. We took good shots.  I thought we gave them to much room in the first half. But in the second half we came really hard.”

Salim [Stoudamire] was five of nine from the three point line. I think Chris [Rodgers] came off the bench and did exactly what we needed him to do. He took good shots and defended without reaching. It was his best game. We had five guys in double figures. I thought it was a very positive game.”

“Like I’ve said before this team can be the best. We can step up defensively, and offensively if you give us a few inches we’ll get three points.”

“What’s really bad is when you teach guys what to do. Like Channing, moving his feet and getting his hands up ?- which you can’t defend better than that, then he gets penalized for doing what he was taught.”

“I thought it was a great day. Great fan support here. People should come and out and support the team like that. I thought it was just a great day for Wildcat basketball, as Jim Livengood would say.”

“Like I’ve said before I think this team has potential. It was a great weekend for us. Now we play five out of seven on the road, which will be a great challenge for us.”

Arizona Players’ Postgame Quotes

Senior Center Channing Frye:

“This is one of the best efforts we have had.  Not only because we won, but how we had contributions from everyone.  I don’t want to fool myself and say that this game makes or breaks our season, but it was a step in the right direction.”

“The coaches have helped us big men develop and become the players we can be.  We were taking good shots and passing well as a team.  We stuck together and had a positive tone.  We’re not going to accept mediocrity.”

“I wanted to be consistent as a leader on the floor.  Salim (Stoudamire) and I had a conversation before the game.  We wanted to establish ourselves early in the game.  I feel like I did a better job.  I get more excited blocking shots, but that dunk was awesome.”

“It feels so great to get the win.  It doesn’t matter about their rank in the conference.  It’s just good to finally beat them here.”

Senior Guard Salim Stoudamire:

“Chris (Rodgers) played excellent.  He was knocking down his shots, but most importantly, he was playing defense.”

“They (Stanford) have beaten me the three previous times.  It’s great to get the win.”

“We tried to shut him (Chris Hernandez) down, but that’s impossible with his talent.  We still did a good job on him.”

“We just didn’t want to get overconfident in the game today when we went up on them.  We stayed humble.  The team put forth a strong effort.”

“People were talking about having a good time.  We wanted to come out and play hard to get the win.”

“I like to play on the road better.  I like shutting the crowd up.”

“We know if the guards get beat, Channing (Frye) and Kirk (Walters) and the big guys are there to help us.”

Junior Guard Chris Rodgers:

“We just game out ready to play from the start.  We had a really good defensive effort.  I just tried to move the ball.  My teammates did a good job of finding me so I had my shot.  I just want to come in and contribute.”

“I leave it up to the coaches about when I play.  I try to work hard and keep a positive attitude.  I’m back, and I’m glad we bounced back as a team.”

“I think we definitely were a lot more focused and prepared.  When I’m in the game, I’m going to bring the defensive pressure and do my part.”

“We are definitely taking each game more seriously.  It’s a step in the right direction.”
