TUCSON - Staying home in the month of June does not sit well with Mike Candrea. After a longer-than-usual summer for the Arizona softball team, Candrea and the squad are eager to take the field and get things rolling toward the 2012 season. Fall practice begins Wednesday for the Wildcats.

"We are very excited to begin fall practice and I have been very pleased with the work and preparation that the players have committed to since the end of last season," said Candrea. "There is no doubt that this team has brought a strong commitment to the weight room, conditioning and the work they have put in on their own. Now is the time to find the best group of athletes that are willing to commit to excellence, wear the `A' with pride and win the last game."

The Cats, who have been participating in strength and conditioning workouts since early September, began individual practice two weeks ago. Arizona's fall preparation has been a bit abnormal this year as the players partook in vision testing and yoga, both firsts for Candrea.

"The eyes are a huge piece of the puzzle to excel in our game," said Candrea. "If we can improve our ability to slow the game down, make better decisions and therefore improve our performance on the field - it will be time well spent."

UA will undergo two weeks of practice before competing in its first fall game, a tilt with Pima on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Hillenbrand Stadium. The entire fall schedule is as follows:
