Athens, Ga. ?- The No. 4 Arizona women’s swimming and diving team completed the second round of NCAA Championship preliminary action this afternoon at the Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Ga. Qualifying 10 athletes in five different events for finals competition tonight beginning at 7 p.m. (EST).
The Wildcats are currently in the lead with 161 points after winning national titles in the 200 free relay, 400 medley relay and the 200 individual medley.
Starting off the action for today was the 400 medley relay team of seniors Marshi Smith, Erin Sieper, freshman Lara Jackson and freshman Taylor Baughman, who finished fourth overall with a time of 1:39.41.
Junior Whitney Myers, who took the 200 individual medley title last night, finished fifth overall in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:13.29.
Sophomore Lacey Nymeyer qualified for the 200 freestyle finals after winning her heat and finishing third overall with a personal best and (team) season best time of 1:45.43. Sophomore Courtney Cashion qualified for the consolation finals of the race as she finished 10th overall with a time of 1:47.38.
Sieper finished eighth overall in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:01.35 while freshman Jessica Embick and sophomore Jacquelyn Craft both qualified for the consolation finals of the event.
Senior Jenna Gresdal posted a No. 2 seed in the 100 backstroke for tonight’s finals with a time of 53.19 as Smith qualified for the consolation finals with a time of 53.77.
