TUCSON, Ariz . ?C Led again by a strong performance from sophomore Ravid Hazi, the Arizona menˇ?s tennis team won both of their matches today, 7-0.

?

In their first match they went up against the Lumberjacks of Northern Arizona. The match was never in doubt, as Arizona took the doubles point and?didn't look back.?

?

Using the same three duos from Fridayˇ?s action vs. Gonzaga, Claudio Christen and Jay Goldman played in the No. 1 position and beat Chris Arena and Brad Bristow; 8-2.

?

In the No. 2 position, Pat ˇ?Beastˇ± Metham and his partner Andres Carrasco got the best of Jeff Morys and Renzo Lau; 5-3

?

On why his teammates refer to Metham as ˇ?Beastˇ±, they said it was for his intimidating size and ferocious play.

?

For the third and final doubles match, veteran senior Bruno Alcala and Hazi downed Ryan Fraser and Jacob Tracy; 8-2.

?

Arizona did not let up in the singles matches against the ˇ®Jacks.?

?

Goldman took care of Arena in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, while teammate No. 37th ranked Christen beat Bristow; 6-2, 6-0 to led the Cats to a 7-0 win.

?

The Cats then took a one hour intermission before they did battle with Scottsdale Community College for the second of their two matches.

?

The results in the second match were very much similar to this morningˇ?s play.

?

The Cats again won the doubles point, though this time with a difference combination of players.

?

Christen and freshman David Humphreys played Thomas Rizk and Alex Wieland of SCC, but it was determined that Wieland was ineligible thus giving Arizona the win by default.

?

ˇ?Their coach brought it to my attention that one of their players (Wieland) was ineligible,ˇ± said head coach Tad Berkowitz. ˇ?So we decided to play out the match and score it as a default.ˇ±

?

The Arizona ˇ?Spaniardˇ± team of Alcala and Carrasco teamed together but dropped their doubles match to Richard Lindstrom and Kevin Crowley; 7-9.

?

For the determining doubles match, Metham and Peter Zimmer defeated Craig Kessler and Andrew Waltz; 8-4.

?

In singles play vs. SCC, Hazi beat Crowley; 6-0, 6-0, while playing in the No. 5 spot.? The win gave Hazi a perfect record in his last three matches played over the two days.? He has not given up a set thus far in the early spring schedule.

?

ˇ?Iˇ?ve been playing some really good tennis out there, said Hazi. ˇ?I like being one of the players my team can count on.

?

Also standing out in the afternoon for the Cats was Humphreys. Getting his first taste of collegiate action, Humphreys stepped up and defeated Waltz; 6-2, 6-3.

?

In the final match between the two schools, Goldman and Rizk gave each other everything they had. After Goldman won the first set easily, 6-0, Rizk came back and forced a third set by winning, 6-7 (3). In the third set Goldman was able to defeat Rizk; 7-6 (4), for the hard fought win.

?

ˇ?I felt the day as a whole was really beneficial to us,ˇ± added Berkowitz. ˇ?I thought our guys really played well out there and Iˇ?m pleased with the outcome.ˇ±

?

Arizona, now 3-0, will play the San Francisco Dons on Friday at the Tucson Racquet Club beginning at 1 p.m.
