TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Arizona men's golfer Erik Oja finished in a tie for 14th place individually Friday at the Barona Collegiate Cup in San Diego, Calif.

Oja, a sophomore from Sandviken, Sweden, carded a final-round 69 (-3) en route to a five-under 211 total and a tie for 14th place. It was his second consecutive top-20 finish and his fifth - including four top-10 efforts - this season. Additionally, the 211 total marked a season low for Oja in both aggregate and total in relation to par.

With two rounds in the 60s in this event, Oja now has the team lead in that category with seven. In six spring events, his scoring average is 72.94 strokes per round.

Oja helped Arizona finish in 11th place in the 54-hole event with a 1,094 (+14) total. His 69 today equaled Arizona's low round of the tournament and was one of eight sub-par rounds registered by the Wildcats in the tournament.

Host San Diego State won the event with a 1,051 (-29) total, finishing two shots ahead of USC. North Texas (1,060) and Georgia Tech (1,066) rounded out the top-four places in the 16-team field.

SDSU's J.J. Spaun garnered individual medalist honors with a 14-under 202 tally.

In addition to Oja, Arizona's Philip Bagdade finished at level-par 216 and tied for 31st place, four shots ahead of teammate Juan Pablo Hernandez, who tied for 46th place. Chris Capo and Trent Redfern, playing as an individual, each tied for 56th place at seven-over 223.

Brenden Redfern tied for 74th place at seven-over 223, while Tucker Wadkins, who tied for 83rd place at 14-over 230, and Alex McMahon, who tied for 85th place at 15-over 231, rounded out the UA contingent.

The Barona Collegiate Cup featured six players per team with the low five scores counting towards the team total in each round. The event was contested at Barona Creek Golf Club, a par-72, 7,393-yard layout.

Arizona next will be in action, April 6-7, at the ASU/Thunderbird Invitational in Tempe, Ariz.
