CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Arizona baseball team extended its winning streak to a season-high six games with a 4-1 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Wednesday evening. The win is Arizona's fifth straight over the Islanders and improves its record to 11-1 for the season.
Freshman Will Miller scattered five hits over six innings to pick up his first career win for Arizona. He gave up only one unearned run, while striking out one and walking none. Kevin Sears worked two scoreless innings in relief before giving way to Tony Sulser in the ninth who picked up his third save of the season.
Freshman Richard Mercado extended his team-high hitting streak to nine consecutive games with a first inning double that turned into Arizona first run on Chris Cunningham's RBI single. Mercado finished the game 2-for-5 with a RBI and one run scored.
Sophomore Moises Duran was the only other Arizona player to collect more than one hit, as the Wildcats left a season-high 12 runners on base. Duran picked up his third multi-hit game of the year with a 3-for-4 effort.
Arizona will travel to College Station on Thursday for a three game series with Texas A&M beginning on Friday. Arizona will send ace Sean Rierson to the mound in the series opener. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. MST.
