TUCSON, Ariz. - Roberto Galletti posted an even-par 70 Tuesday during the second round of stroke play at the 2008 United States Amateur Championship in Village of Pinehurst, N.C.
Galletti, a sophomore from Clayton, Calif., tallied three birdies on the day, including a three on No. 18, to finish with a even-par 70 on Pinehurst's famous No. 2 course. Combined with his opening-round 75, Galletti currently sits in a tie for 68th place at 145 (+5).
The field of 315 players will be trimmed to the low 64 scores for match play, which begins tomorrow. A number of player remain on the course as of 4:18 p.m. PDT.
Beck Miller, a sophomore from Houston, Texas, shot a six-over 76 on the No. 4 course and is tied for 140th place overall with a 148 (+8) tally.
Tyler Neal, a senior from Tucson, carded a 78 (+8) on the No. 4 course and is in a tie for 220th place with a 36-hole total of 151 (+11). It was the third consecutive appearance for Neal at the U.S. Amateur.
David McDaniel, a Tucson native and a member of the golf program in 2004-05, carded a three-over 73 Tuesday en route to a two-round total of 141 (+1). He currently sits in a tie for 20th place.
The event is being contested over Pinehurst's No. 2 and No. 4 courses. Both courses are par 70, while the No. 2 course covers 7,281 yards, the No. 4 covers 7,030 yards. Only the No. 2 course will be used for match play.
The 108th U.S. Amateur Championship continues through Aug. 24.
