Tucson, Ariz. (Sept. 8) - The University of Arizona women's gymnastics team has announced its schedule for the approaching 2004 season. Arizona will vie for its 18th consecutive postseason appearance and the programs' second National Championship appearance in the last three seasons.

The Wildcats will open 2004 on the road in East Lansing, Mich., and will face Michigan St., LSU, Rhode Island and Western Michigan on Friday, Jan. 9. Arizona returns to Tucson on Friday, Jan. 16 to host its Pac-10 Conference opener against the defending national champion UCLA Bruins.

Arizona will host a total of four meets in McKale Center, including run-ins with California, Washington and Arkansas. The Wildcats will also compete in three meets in the span of a week beginning with a home match up against Washington on Friday, Feb. 20, then traveling to Denton, Texas on Monday, Feb. 23 to face Texas Women's University and LSU and finishing the stint against Arizona St. on Friday, Feb. 27 in Tempe, Ariz.

The Wildcats will also travel to Chicago, Ill. on Saturday, Jan. 31 to face UIC, Corvallis, Ore. on Friday, Feb. 13 to battle Pac-10 foe Oregon St. and to Gainesville, Fla. on Friday, March 5 to take on the University of Florida.

The University of Arizona will be the host institution for the 2004 Pac-10 Conference Championships on Saturday, March 20 and the 2004 South Central Regional Championships on Saturday, April 3.

"We will be facing some of the very best in the nation this upcoming season," head coach Bill Ryden said. "The quality of teams we will face will put pressure on us to perform our best week in and week out and will definitely prepare us for the postseason. I like our schedule and the fact that we can stay at home at the end of the season. That can work in our favor if our team works hard and does its job up to that point."

Of Arizona's 14 opponents in 2004, nine of those teams were ranked in the final 2003 Top-25. The Wildcats will return 12 gymnasts from last year's squad, including 2003 National Championship participant, junior Monica Bisordi and adds three freshman newcomers to the roster.
