No. 47 Arizona Men's Tennis Shutout by No. 43 Arizona State
Tucson, Ariz. - The University of Arizona men's tennis team lost to the No. 43 Arizona State Sun Devils, 0-7, on Friday. In their ninth match of a 10-match homestand and second Pac-10 match of the season, Arizona was swept in singles and doubles competition. The Cats are now 6-4 on the season.
On the singles side, playing in the first position, senior Steven Capriati lost a tough match, including two tie-breakers, to Matt Klinger, 6-3, 6-7(8), 7-6(5). Sophomore Whi Kim fell to Pim Van Mele, 7-6(8), 7-5, in the second spot. Junior Tom Lloyd, playing in the third slot, lost to Clinton Letcher, 7-5, 6-2. Sophomore Carl Hagman fell to Olivier Charroin, playing in the fourth position, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Competing in the fifth spot, senior Bruno Arapovic lost in straight sets to Chris Stewart, 6-3, 6-2. In his third straight appearance in singles action since the fall, freshman Colin O'Grady fell to Mitchell Bowen, 6-2, 7-6.
Arizona dropped all three doubles matches, allowing ASU to win the doubles point. The team of Capriati and Hagman dropped their match to Klinger and Bowen, 9-7. In the second position, Lloyd and Kim were shutout by Letcher and Van Mele, 8-0. O'Grady and sophomore Arnaud Agniel lost to Stewart and Charroin, 8-4, competing in the third spot.
The Wildcats are back in action on Monday, March 4, at 1:30 p.m., when they face the Loyola Marymount Lions at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
