Nike Golf Camps - U of A

US Sports Camps is proud to present the 2006 Nike Golf Camps at University of Arizona.  Nike Jr. Golf Schools have aided in the development of over 80,000 golfers since 1994.  Great weather, quality PGA instruction and the ability to play for the University of Arizona’s golf coaches make this camp an experience to remember.

Arizona National Golf Club

Arizona National Golf Club is desert golf at its finest. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., the golf course meanders among the foothills of Tucson, Arizona’s beautiful Santa Catalina Mountains as it follows the rugged natural flow of the land across shady mesquite-lined arroyos and skirts craggy rock outcroppings.

The surrounding vistas at Arizona National Golf Club are unmatched by any golf club in the Tucson area. From atop the tee boxes on many holes, you can see panoramic views that stretch across Tucson and all the way to Mexico.

Camp Staff

Entering his 28th season at the helm of the Arizona golf program, Rick LaRose, director of golf and head men’s coach at Arizona, has established Wildcat golf as one of the nation’s finest collegiate golf programs. Year-in and year-out, the hall of fame coach has his charges in the national rankings, near the top of the leader board and in the hunt for the national championship. LaRose has guided Arizona to 19 consecutive NCAA Championship appearances, the second-longest active streak in the nation.  LaRose’s teams have won two NCAA titles, seven NCAA regional championships, four Pac-10 crowns and three Rolex Match Play titles.

Since taking over the Arizona women’s golf program in July 2000, Greg Allen has kept the proud program at the top of the women’s collegiate golf scene. In six seasons, the team has won nine team tournament titles, an astonishing 24 individual titles and claimed 74 additional individual Top 10 finishes.  A hallmark of Allen’s coaching style, the Wildcats have played the team’s best golf in the postseason, winning three times in the all-important
championship events. In addition to the team success that Arizona has enjoyed under Allen, individual championships have not been in short supply. Five different Arizona golfers have won individual championships in the Allen era.

Assisting LaRose and Allen will be John Knauer, Shelly Haywood and current UA players. All coaches and counselors are experienced at working with young players and will provide attendees with outstanding instruction in a serious but fun learning environment.

Junior Day Camps

The primary emphasis during the day camps is the development of fundamental skills through group and individual instruction.  The U of A coaching staff create an environment that is conducive to learning by balancing instruction, competition and fun for all campers.  Each day is devoted to different aspects of the game.  Woods, long irons, short irons, sand play, putting and specialty shots are covered during each session. The day camp methods of teaching are based on sound principles that have been simplified to help campers quickly grasp the mechanics of the golf swing.

The day camps are broken up into two groups, Full Day Campers (8:30am-3:30pm) and Half Day Campers (8:30am-11:30am). Lunch is included in the camp price for Full Day Campers only.
