Rafael Quintero won the platform championship by more than 40 points on Sunday, scoring a 388.20 to lead Arizona at Hillenbrand Aquatic Center.
"I'm very happy with the performance," head coach Omar Ojeda said about his team. "They look really excited and confident, and that's what it takes to keep getting better."
Quintero's first-place finish concludes what has been an extremely successful weekend. On Saturday he finished third in the 3m championship, and got fifth in Friday's 1m championship.
Sophomore Carter Craft had a sixth place finish in the platform with a score of 280.30. Craft previously dove to a third-place finish in the 1m championship and a second-place finish in the 3m consolation final.
For the women, sophomore Izzy Diamond performed well enough on Sunday to place ninth in the platform dive. She scored a 204.30 through her five dives in doing so.
Senior Ashley Herrera scored a 192.85 in the platform championship, and finished 14th out of 23 divers. This finishes out her strong performance throughout the weekend after previously finishing first in the 3m consolation final and fifth in the 1m consolation final.
The Arizona divers will have a lengthy break before returning to action in January. The women's dive team will compete on Jan. 4th in Tucson when they take on Northern Arizona, Oregon State, and New Mexico State. The meet will be at noon at Hillenbrand Aquatic Center. From there, both men and women divers will travel to Los Angeles for the Bruin Invitation, which runs Jan. 11-13.
