TUCSON, Ariz. ?- Thanks to the keen eye of Arizona football fan Dick Benson, it has been discovered that senior Danny Baugher and the Wildcat football team have broken a pair of Pac-10 punting records over the past two weeks.

Baugher, who averaged 59.5 yards per punt on Sept. 10 against Northern Arizona, snapped the previous Pac-10 single-game record for punting average of 58.0 yards per kick set 49 years ago by UCLA’s Kirk Wilson (1956, vs. Kansas).

A week later against Purdue, Baugher helped boost the Wildcats to the conference record for single-game team average per punt (min. 5 punts), booting seven balls for 402 yards and a 57.6 yards per kick average. The previous mark of 55.6 was held by the 1987 California team that finished its contest against USC with nine punts and 500 yards.

Baugher, who currently leads all Division I kickers with a 51.8 yards per punt average, and the Arizona football team have a bye week this upcoming Saturday and will next take the field on Oct. 1 against No. 13-ranked Cal in Berkeley, Calif., in a game that will be televised nationally on TBS.
