TUCSON, Ariz. - Russ Bertram, the University of Arizona swimming and diving program coordinator, was selected as a judge for the 2008 U.S. Diving Olympic Trials.
Bertram was one of seven judges selected by USA Diving after a national search. Qualified judges must be certified through FINA, the sport's international governing body, and have international experience as a diving judge. Judges were then ranked by peers and the nation's elite-level diving coaches.
"I am excited and honored to be selected as an Olympic Trials judge," said Bertram. "I have been involved with USA Diving and the Olympic movement for many years and have followed the careers of our elite divers very closely. I will enjoy watching those athletes see their own Olympic dreams come true, and I'll take great pride in the opportunity to be a part of that selection process."
A five time national champion as a diver, Bertram served as the national events director for USA Diving from 2001-04 and for eight years has been on the USA Diving board of directors. He served as a team administrator for USA Diving during the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games. Bertram is in his third year with the Arizona swimming and diving program.
The 2008 U.S. Olympic Diving Trials will be held June 18-22 at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind.
A native of Indianapolis, Bertram graduated from Indiana University in 1989.
