Twelve of the 16 teams scheduled to compete participated in last year’s NCAA Regionals
TUCSON, Ariz. + The University of Arizona men’s golf team will open its 2005 spring season by hosting the PING-Arizona Intercollegiate, Jan. 31-Feb. 1, at Arizona National Golf Club. Twelve of the 16 teams in the field participated in last year’s NCAA Regionals.
One of the finest college golf events in the nation, the 2005 PING-Arizona Intercollegiate is a 54-hole event, which will be contested at Arizona National, a par 71, 6,900-yard layout. Thirty-six holes will be played on Monday, Jan. 31 with continuous play scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. MST. The final 18 holes will start at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 1.
Four of the teams in the field are currently ranked in the Precept/GCAA Top-25 Coaches Poll. The following teams are scheduled to compete: Arizona State, Brigham Young, California, UC-Irvine, UC-Riverside, Colorado, Fresno State, Long Beach State, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Oregon, Texas-El Paso, Texas A&M, Tulsa, and host Arizona (two squads).
The Wildcats, currently ranked 18th in the most recent Precept/GCAA Top-25 Coaches Poll, posted one victory in five fall events. UA has been ranked in the top-20 nationally in each poll released during the 2004-05 campaign.
