Arizona Men's Tennis Shuts Out Northern Arizona
Tucson, Ariz. - The University of Arizona men's tennis team cruised past the Lumberjacks of Northern Arizona, 7-0, on Friday. In their third match of a 10-match homestand, Arizona dominated in singles play allowing only one match to stretch to three sets. The Wildcats swept all three doubles matches.
On the singles side, playing the first position, senior Steven Capriati defeated Daniel Lundstrom of NAU, 6-4, 6-2. Sophomore Whi Kim topped Lumberjack Jeff Johnson in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3 and Wildcat junior Tom Lloyd crushed Thibault Schram, 6-1, 6-1. In the fourth spot, sophomore Carl Hagman beat Jonathon John, 6-3, 6-4. In the only three-set match of the day, senior Bruno Arapovic outlasted Adrian Venturi, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Playing in the sixth spot, sophomore Roeland Brateanu topped Jeremy Coll, 6-1, 6-4.
All three Wildcat doubles teams took home point today. In the top spot, the team of Capriati and Hagman finished off NAU's John and Lundstrom, 8-5. Arizona's nationally ranked team of Lloyd and Kim, No. 60 in the ITA poll, defeated Johnson and Venturi, 8-4. In the third position, Brateanu and walk-on freshman Colin O'Grady passed Coll and Schram for the win, 8-6.
The Wildcats are back in action on Sunday, Feb. 10 at 12:00 p.m., when they will face the UC-Santa Barbara Gauchos at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
