TUCSON, Ariz. - The No. 23 Arizona Wildcats turned in arguably its best performance of the season, sweeping No. 20 Oregon Friday evening at McKale Center to improve its Pac-10 record to 6-5. Set scores were: 25-12, 25-16 and 27-25.
The Wildcats blitzed Oregon from the get-go, winning set one 25-12 and never looking back. Cursty Jackson led the team with 12 kills while Whitney Dosty and Tiffany Owens had 11 and nine kills, respectively.
"All games are important in our conference," said head coach Dave Rubio. "Oregon had an off night. When you lose you have despair and that's what keeps us going to get better. We have to play efficient tomorrow, but I'm pleased with the win"
The Ducks, who have won just once inside McKale Center since 2000, could never seem to get things together as they recorded 22 errors over the three sets.
The Cats hit .344 for the match compared to .103 by the Ducks. On the defensive end, Courtney Karst and Marketa Hanzlova each had 10 digs for UA which moves to 2-0 over the second half of the conference schedule.
"It's a nice win and to get it done in three," said Dosty. "I think we picked good spots on our blocks. We weren't drifting too much."
Tomorrow, the Wildcats will host Oregon State at 7 p.m. The Beavers faced off tonight vs. ASU.
