TUCSON, Ariz. ?- The University of Arizona men’s golf team shot a two-under-par 3533 Tuesday and moved into a tie for third place at the 2006 Pacific-10 Conference Championships at the Canyons Course at Bighorn Golf Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

Arizona’s two-under tally was easily its lowest of the tournament and gave the Wildcats an 11-over 1,076 total and a third-place tie with Arizona State.  UA’s third-round total was its best over the first three rounds by seven strokes and was one of only two sub-par team totals on Tuesday.

All six Arizona golfers played Tuesday’s round at one-over par or better.  Three Cats, Ben Fox, Henry Liaw and Brian Prouty, finished under par.

UCLA holds the third-round lead with a six-under 1,059 total, six strokes in front of Washington.  The Bruins’ Daniel Im has the individual lead with a three-round 205 (-8).

Freshman Ben Fox continues to lead the Wildcat individuals.  Fox carded a one-under 71 Tuesday and moved into a tie for third place with a three-round 211 (-2) total.  Junior Henry Liaw, the 2004 Pac-10 individual medalist, currently stands in a tie for fifth place at 212 (-1).  He shot a two-under 69 in Tuesday’s third round.

UA’s Brian Prouty posted his first red numbers of the event, a one-under 70, and moved into a tie for 16th place at 216 (+3).  Josh Esler carded a one-over 72 and his four-over 217 total ties him for 21st place.

Teammates Travis Esway and Nathan Tyler are tied for 28th and 47th places, respectively.  Esway stands at seven-over 220, while Tyler has registered a 14-over 227 tally.

The 2006 Pac-10 Conference Men’s Golf Championships conclude Wednesday at the Canyons Course at Bighorn Golf Club.  The course is a par 71, 7,009-yard layout.  The low five scores from teams of six players make up the team total in each round.
