Arizona Head Coach Sean Miller
"That was a great college basketball game. It's not easy to say that after a loss, but it's definitely true. We both had about five to seven or eight chances to win the game, and UNLV was able to take advantage. They are a great team, excellent on defense, and Tre'Von Willis had a great game for them tonight. They were down by five at half, but UNLV stuck with it, got him the ball, and he made plays. We just have to move on, and stick together, as a team."
"They definitely tested us on defense tonight. We are improving, and I think that we couldn't have defended the ball as well ten days ago. This is our fourth game in a row like this, with this kind of intensity. Vanderbilt, Wisconsin, Colorado, and now UNLV, and there is no doubt that there will be more games like this as the season goes on. We are going to have a lot of games where there is absolutely no room for error. We win as a team, we lose as a team. We'll be ready for what's next, and there is no doubt that we will keep improving."
"Our younger guys were definitely too reliant on Nic (Wise) tonight. They kept getting him the ball, and while he makes plays, Nic can't make them all. It really wore down our offense. A good number of our guys are in unfamiliar territory right now. The plays are there, and they pass them up because they doubt their talent, their ability, but that will pass, and they will get more confident."
"The game doesn't stop if someone gets hurt. Nic went down and our guys went to him, which led to UNLV getting a practically open lay up. That can't happen. We gave up too much tonight, and that can't keep happening. We have to find a way to up the confidence of our freshmen and sophomores, and I know we will.
"Derrick (Williams) had a really great game tonight. Sometimes I wonder how our team would be if we didn't have him. He is very talented, and will do a lot of great things this season. Had we won tonight, he would have been the reason for it."
Arizona Player Quotes
Freshman Forward Derrick Williams
"I thought we played hard. It was a tough loss. Somebody had to lose; we were just on the wrong side of the coin I guess. It was a tough loss."
"We played excellent on defense, we were a completely different team out there tonight than we were against Vanderbilt."
On how UNLV tried to stop him:
"They kept switching bigs on me, putting some quicker bigs on me. They had three guys, some post-up bigs, some quicker bigs that they kept interchanging. It was pretty physical. They were fouling a lot, so we just had to be strong and finish, which I did tonight, getting all those And-1's."
Freshman Guard Lamont Jones
On the improved defense:
"Whether we win or lose, it's always the message. You can never play too much good defense."
"We showed a lot of people that we can play with the best of them. They're top 25 and we're a team that no one expects much out of, and we played with them the entire night. We all like the direction this program is headed. They're a top 25 team and we took them into two overtimes, it's disappointing that we lost the game, I know we could have won."
