What to watch for tonight:
The Backstroke Trio
Jake Tapp, Pete Stacy and Bryan O’Connor will all be in the 200 backstroke final tonight after finishing in the top eight during prelims earlier. Look for one of the Wildcats to possibly have a top-three finish tonight from one of the outside lanes. Last night Tapp place third in the 100 back followed by O’Connor in seventh.
Beijing Olympic participants Joel Greenshields and Nicolas Nilo will be in the finals tonight for Arizona in the 100 free. Greenshields, who swam for Canada last summer, placed seventh earlier this morning while Nilo was fourth overall. The two cats will be in a crowded Bay Area final with all six other swimmers in the event from either California or Stanford.
Freshman AJ Tipton will try for the 200 butterfly Pac-10 title tonight. Earlier in prelims, Tipton turned in the fourth fastest time with a 1:43.73. The Tennessee native already owns UA’s all-time fastest time in the 200 fly with 1:42.48; he just might needed to surpass that to notch the win.
Jean Basson will swim the 1650 free in what will be without a doubt, a grueling race. On Thursday, Basson won the 500 free Pac-10 title and finished runner-up in the 200 free last night.
