BOSTON (July 19) - University of Arizona women's basketball player Shawntinice Polk pulled down a team-high six rebounds as the USA Young Women's National Team (3-0) beat the Brazil Young Women's Team (1-2), 74-62, in a "friendly" game on Saturday. The contest is part of a series of friendlies that the USA Young Women are playing at Matthews Arena on the campus of Northeastern University in Boston, Mass., this week.
Polk saw 19 minutes of playing time during the contest and had five points, one assist and a steal to go along with her team-leading six rebounds.
Ohio State's Caity Matter shot 5-for-9 from three-point range on her way to a team-high 17 points. Duke's Alana Beard was close behind with 16 points, followed by Nicole Ohlde (Kansas State) with 10 points.
The USA Young Women will play the Australian team on Sunday, July 20, at 3 p.m. EDT in their final friendly game before heading to Croatia next week. The squad will be participating in the 2003 FIBA World Championship for Young Women from July 25-Aug. 12 in Sibenik, Croatia.
