The most successful coach in Arizona women's basketball history, the 48-year-old Bonvicini holds a 174-110 mark in 10 seasons with the Wildcats and is 499-181 in 22 years as a collegiate head coach. After taking over an Arizona program that was one of the worst in the nation, Bonvicini has compiled more wins at the UA than all six of the previous Wildcat coaches combined.
In what was supposed to be a rebuilding season, Bonvicini has guided this years young Wildcat squad to 15-5 overall and 5-3 Pac-10 records. The team picked up its second win of the season over a ranked opponent with an 88-76 victory over No. 22 Oregon at home on Thursday night. That was Bonvicinis 499th career win.
Prior to taking over at the UA, Bonvicini led Long Beach State to 10 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, including two trips to the Final Four. She registered a 325-71 mark in 12 seasons with the 49ers.
Bonvicini garnered career win No. 300 on Mar. 10, 1990, while at Long Beach State (85-83 over Pacific). Her 400th career victory came on Dec. 1, 1996 ironically, it was a 97-57 win with the Wildcats over Long Beach State.
