SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - Behind 204 rushing yards from sophomore Ka'Deem Carey, the University of Arizona football team picked up its first road win of the season with a 34-24 victory over Utah, in Salt Lake City, on Saturday. The Wildcats advanced to 7-4 overall and 4-4 in Pac-12 play. The Utes fell to 4-7 overall and 2-6 in Pac-12 play, eliminating themselves from bowl eligibility.
Senior quarterback Matt Scottreturned to the helm of the offense after missing the Colorado game. He completed 12-of-27 throws for 160 yards and a touchdown. He also had 74 yards rushing on 13 carries and a score. He targeted five different receivers, each hauling in at least one catch.
Now leading the nation in total rushing yards, Carey ran for 204 yards on 26 totes with one touchdown. He averaged 7.8 yards per carry. He has 1,585 rushing yards on the season with 19 touchdowns on the ground and one receiving. The sophomore from Tucson is now 17 yards from tying Trung Canidate's school record of 1,602 yards during the 1999 season.
Senior John Bonano's44-yard field goal was the first points of the game, made late in the first quarter. He also hit a 24-yarder with 1:15 to play in the fourth quarter. He also connected on four extra points, extending his school record to 73-straight made PATs.
Biletnikoff Award semifinalist Austin Hill finished the game with six catches for 96 yards and a touchdown. Junior Daniel Jenkinsran for 42 yards on seven totes and a touchdown, his second of the season.
Arizona's 17-14 lead heading into the locker room was its first on the road since the Nov. 26, 2010 game at Oregon.
