TUCSON, Ariz. – The Arizona baseball game scheduled for a 5 p.m. start this evening at Kindall Field/Sancet Stadium has been postponed due to rain. The teams will play a doubleheader on Wednesday beginning at Noon (MST).
Arizona head coach Andy Lopez and Saint Joseph’s head coach Fritz Hamburg agreed to postpone the game at approximately 4:45 p.m., one hour after the rain began to fall and 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.
Light showers began to fall around 3:45 p.m. while Saint Joseph’s was taking batting practice. The tarp was placed over the infield at 3:50 p.m. and showers continued over the next hour.
Rain has been a frequent headline for UA baseball games this season and the field has accumulated a significant amount of water in recent weeks.
Earlier this season, UA’s Feb. 20 game against Utah Valley was postponed due to rain. The Wildcats played a doubleheader the next day, winning both games.
Rain also cancelled the third game of the Long Beach State series on Feb. 28. Last weekend, UA completed its three-game series against Cal State Fullerton on Sunday, minutes before a drenching storm system came through the Tucson area.
