The Rankings: ??Arizona fell four spots in the latest ITA collegiate poll to No. 55.? Individually Jay Goldman is ranked No. 109 with Claudio Christen at No. 121

Arizona Head Coach Tad Berkowitzˇ? will begin his third season at the helm for the Wildcats . He currently has a record of 27-31.? Berkowitz joined the program in 2004?and has held numerous national and collegiate coaching positions. He was promoted to the head coaching position in the spring of 2005 after serving as hall-of-famer Bill Wright's assistant.? Berkowitz, 33, was a top collegiate player for the universities of Kentucky and New Mexico, respectively.? Berkowitz began his coaching career in 1999?as an assistant coach at Alabama for three seasons. In his final year he helped the Crimson Tide earn a No. 18 national ranking and a berth in the NCAA Championships.? He is assisted by Tom Lloyd, who is in his second year in that capacity.

Scouting the Golden Bears: ?California is currently ranked No. 42 and has a record of 8-7. Last time out they dropped a close match vs. No. 13 Pepperdine on Wednesday.

Last Meeting vs. California: ?The Bears edged the Cats in a tight match which came down to the final singles match. On court two Kallim Stewart was able to defeat Jay Goldman 7-6 (5), 3-6, 7-5 for the go-ahead point.

Last Time Out: ?Arizona dropped a close match vs. Arizona State last Saturday by the score of 4-3. Itˇ?s the third consecutive 4-3 finish for the Cats.

Nacho Man: Andres ˇ®Nachoˇ? Carrasco has been turning in some stellar play for the Cats as of late. Carrasco has won his last 5 singles matches, all versus top notch competition.? Heˇ?ll look to continue to boost up his team this weekend in California.

Some New (Volunteer) Coaching Help: ?This year Arizona is pleased to have ATP all-pro Taylor Dent as a volunteer assistant coach throughout the season.? Dent, who was ranked as the No. 21 player in the world on August 8th 2005, suffered a back injury which caused him to miss most of the past seasons. After having successful surgery, Dent was contacted by good friend and former coach Tom Lloyd, now an assistant with Arizona, who extended the coaching invitation.? Dent, while working on rehabbing his back, will coach the Wildcats on specific and individual techniques. Dent is known as an aggressive serve-and-volleyer with one of the biggest serves on the tour, tying Andy Roddick for the record of fastest serve at 155 mph.

Returnees: ?The Cats senior leaders have been the rock of the team so far. Claudio Christen, ranked No. 121 in singles and No. 48 in doubles by the ITA rankings released on Tuesday, has a record of 12-3 in doubles. Bruno Alcala has a record of 9-3 in singles.??

New Faces in the Crowd: ?Half way into the year, Arizonaˇ?s so-called ˇ?newbiesˇ± have played a significant role to the teamˇ?s success.? Freshman Andres Carrasco has fluctuated between the No. 2 and 3 positions while posting a record of 11-3 in singles. Also their newcomer from down under, sophomore Pat Metham, has a record of 9-3.

Fall Season: ?The Cats participated in five fall tournaments during the fall semester...In the Midland Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational, Claudio Christen and Bruno Alcala were able to win the doubles championshipˇ?At the Aggie Fall Invitational in Las Cruces, New Mexico, Ravid Hazi advanced to the finals before falling to champion Jim Brouleau of New Mexico Stateˇ?Christen competed in the prestigious Polo All American Championship in Tulsa, OK and won four matches before finally falling to No. 17 Adam Holmstrom of Denverˇ?Peter Zimmer competed in three fall events and posted a record of 5-3.

Up Next: ?The Cats will take on the No. 34 Stanford Cardinal on Saturday, March 29th in Palo Alto, Calif. beginning at 1:00 p.m.
