Hey Gymcat Fans!

?

The season has officially started. We set off for our first meet at Michigan State last Thursday (January 11) morning. Our whole day was pretty much spent traveling. First we flew into Dallas and then we flew into Detroit. Eventually we made it to Lansing, where Breeˇ?s family warmly welcomed our whole team with an amazingly prepared dinner. Our thanks go out to the Workmanˇ?s and the time they put into making us feel at home.

?

Friday was meet day, but the competition didnˇ?t start until 8 pm. So as one of our rituals, we went shopping before the meet to get in some extra exercise and team bonding. Later on we prepared for the meet, which can be quite the process. For those of you who donˇ?t know, we have a tradition of having elaborate make-up and hair which is matching as a team. Finally, we were off to the competition.

?

Warm-ups went extremely well, and the coaches were very encouraged. We started off competing on bars. Brittney started the bar line-up with a very solid performance, doing very well under her first time at the college scene. Miranda, Karin, Beamer, and Alexis also contributed routines on bars. Finishing up the line-up with a beautiful bar routine was Aubrey. We had two exhibitions on bars: both myself and Suzanne. Overall, the bar-lineup looked decent, but we definitely have room for improvement. Many small errors were made that are definitely fixable.

?

Next the GymCats moved to vault. Rachelle opened on vault. One of most consistent vaulters in practice, Rachelle did a great job of starting us off. Myself, Brittney, and Aubrey also competed on vault, but Bree and Jamie Holton were definitely the most dynamic vaulters of the meet, earning a tie for first place, both earning 9.9. The vault team this year is very strong, and itˇ?s impressive that we already scored over a 49.0 in our first meet.

?

Then we went to floor. Another new face, Miranda opened up on floor with a very clean routine. Karin, Danielle, Aubrey, and Alexis also contributed very nice sets on the apparatus. However, once again Jamie Holton posted another high score in the meet on floor with a 9.875. To finish up floor, I was an exhibition. Overall our floor team is very consistent, and we are throwing really big gymnastics. Similar to vault, we scored over a 49.0, which speaks for itself for the talent we have on the team this year.

?

Finally, we finished up on beam. Brittney, Aubrey and Holton contributed solid routines to the beam total. Beamer and Miranda struggled a little, but not to worry; they are both strong beam workers and will have strong sets to contribute in the future. Danielle was the last one to finish the beam line-up with a boom. Her routine was gorgeous, and personally I think she deserved higher than a 9.825, but the score was definitely well deserved. Danielle continues to hold her streak of hitting every single beam routine of her college career! We also had two exhibitions on beam. Alexis had a very nice beam routine, and Bree had a clean routine except for one fall. Our beam team had its ups and downs in the first meet, but I have no doubt that they will pull it together for our next meet at UCLA.

?

Iˇ?m proud to say that we captured our first win of the season at our first competition. Right now we are ranked 8th in the nation. This team has so much potential, and I am excited to see how the rest of the season unfolds!! J
