Dec. 10, 2008
Arizona Head Coach Russ Pennell
"San Diego State is a very good team. We knew that we were going to have to battle them. We weren't in sync during the first half, but after we made some adjustments at half time, we were more in sync for the second half."
"It wasn't that our players were negligent in the first half, they were just one step slow and one step behind them. In the second half, everything just sped up. I'm very pleased with our all around second half effort."
On SDSU's No. 15 Kyle Spain
"We had to make sure to have a hand in his face and have a strong defense on Spain. He's an intricate part of their team, but he had an off night tonight, and we were able to keep him from getting too many shots."
On No. 43 Jordan Hill
"Jordan is a 6'10" forward and is very hard to keep off the glass. He is usually a big mismatch to be defended by and we're very glad that he's a part of our team. He is a great all-around player."
Junior Forward Jordan Hill
On Arizona's rebounding improvement in the second half:
"We knew we had to do a better job of boxing out. They were out-hustling us, out-bodying us. They were just grabbing all the rebounds. That's a big part of what coach told us at half time. We came out in the second half and started boxing out. We tried to get every rebound."
On the behind the back pass and missed dunk in second half:
"I wanted to do something stupid, get the crowd involved. Chase was wide open, so I just did a behind the back pass to get a roar from the crowd; I'd been practicing it. And that missed dunk: I just love to dunk the ball hard. I cocked it back and tried to throw it down. I thought I was Vince for a second."
On the technical foul at Texas A&M:
"Every time I think about that technical foul, I get a little angry. It was not necessary at all. It was stupid of me, and I regret it. Missed free throws from myself and Kyle really hurt us down the stretch, and we came out with a loss."
Freshman Guard Kyle Fogg
On gaining confidence with good game today:
"Yeah, I am gaining confidence. It has a lot to do with my teammates. They tell me to just get out there and play. The coaches give me a lot of confidence too. I know I can play at this level."
On getting a win tonight following a tough loss:
"It does a lot for us. Our team morale is up. We just have to go hard tomorrow and get ready for a big game on Sunday."
Sophomore Forward Jamelle Horne
On going on an 11-0 run down to close the game after a slow start to the game:
"I just think that was playing defense. We talked about improving our defense in the locker room, so that's what we came out and did. We played hard. All our defensive intensity got us a lot of steals. We've had games where we come out 14-4 or 14-2, and then sometimes we'll start slow like we did tonight. That's definitely something we have to work on. If we continue playing together we'll be fine."
