TUCSON - University of Arizona's football program celebrated its senior class and the 2012 season with its annual banquet on Sunday afternoon at the Westin La Paloma Resort. Hosted by Arizona Athletics, the football players, coaches and staff, athletics staff, fans, family and friends of the department were in attendance.
In an event hosted by the Voice of the Wildcats Brian Jeffries, the crowd heard from head coach Rich Rodriguez, Athletics Director Greg Byrne and senior captains offensive lineman Trace Biskin, offensive lineman Kyle Quinn and quarterback Matt Scott.
Kicker John Bonano and Quinn were named the Football Senior Scholar-Athletes and freshman linebacker C.J. Dozier was named the Football Freshman Scholar-Athlete. Jake Fischer was honored with the Tedy Bruschi Award, given to the player who best demonstrates hard work, commitment, determination, leadership, selflessness and gives his all for the good of the team.
Quinn earned the Lineman of the Year Award, Arizona's starting center since the 2010 Alamo Bowl. Scott and sophomore running back Ka'Deem Carey were named Team Most Valuable Players. Scott has thrown for 3,238 yards and 24 touchdowns in the air. Carey leads the nation in rushing with 1,757 yards of total yardage and with 146.42 yards per game. He has 21 touchdowns on the season.
Also recognized were members of the All-Pac-12 Team, the Pac-12 All-Academic Team, the Pac-12 Players of the Week and the Arizona Coaches' Players of the Week.
Arizona got word Sunday that the Wildcats will play the Nevada Wolf Pack at the Gildan New Mexico Bowl, held Sat., Dec. 15 in Albuquerque, N.M.
