LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The University of Arizona men’s tennis team continued play in the Aggie Invitational on Saturday in Las Cruces, N.M. on the campus of New Mexico State.
Francois VanderMerwe picked up two wins as he topped Abeline Christian’s Quentin Peterson-Paul, 6-3, 6-4, and NAU’s Chris Arena, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, respectively.
Pat Metham and VanderMerwe advanced to tomorrow’s doubles final after they beat top seeded Ryan Hudson and Juan Nunez, 8-3.
Other Cats in action on Saturday included David Humphreys, who was downed by Monterrey Tech’s Eduardo Campos, and freshman John Harden who withdrew from his match vs. Wilton Atkins of Western New Mexico.
In the Costa Mesa Futures Tournament, Andres Arango fell to Dominic Stokley in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6.
Tomorrow Metham and VanderMerwe will face New Mexico State’s Eduardo Salas and Roman Stoisavljevic for the Aggie Invite doubles title.
