COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of Arizona freshman volleyball student-athlete Madison Kingdon has been named to USA Volleyball’s Junior National Team, announced Thursday by USA Volleyball.

The 12-player roster will represent the United States at the FIVB Women’s Junior World Championship (U-20) held July 20-31 in Peru.  Prior to leaving for Peru, the team will train July 10-19 at Saint Mary’s College (Calif.) under the direction of U.S. Women’s Junior National Team Head Coach Rob Browning.

Kingdon, who enrolled one semester early at Arizona and will be a freshman this upcoming season, was named the Arizona Republic’s Girls’ Volleyball Player of the Year in 2010 after leading Sunnyslope high school to its third consecutive Class 4A Division I Championship.

The Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Arizona, Kingdon recorded 587 kills, 385 digs, 78 aces and 67 blocks.  She looks to play the outside hitter position at the collegiate level under coach Dave Rubio this Fall.

In April, Kingdon, along with UA senior Cursty Jackson, was named to the USA A2 National Team which is made up of the country’s top college-eligible players.

Of the 12 players named to the team, Kingdon is the only one to have played high school volleyball in 2010, with 10 suiting up for universities and one playing prep volleyball. To be eligible for the 2011 U.S. Women’s Junior National Team, athletes needed to be born in either 1992 or 1993.
