TUCSON, Ariz. ?- The University of Arizona’s women’s soccer head coach Dan Tobias will be coaching the Olympic Development Program Girls Region IV Under-18 team in the 2005 U.S. Youth Soccer adidas Cup to be played May 30-June 3 at Elizabeth K. Meyer Park just outside of Houston, Texas.
Tobias and Rich Manning of the University of Utah will be coaching one of the four Olympic Development Program regional teams in the U.S. Youth Soccer adidas Cup. The tournament will also consist of three other teams, including the Under-17 Women’s National team from the United States and the Under-19 Women’s National teams from Canada and Japan.
Tobias, in his second year with Arizona, guided the Wildcats to their first-ever Pacific-10 title and NCAA Tournament berth. He led Arizona to an overall record of 15-6 and 6-3 in Pac-10 action. With Tobias as head coach, Arizona improved from worst (tied for ninth) to first (Pac-10 co-champions) in just one season, while breaking 31 school records.
In 2004, Tobias was named National Coach of the Year by Soccer America, NSCAA West Region Coach of the Year, West Region Coach of the Year by Soccer Buzz and Pac-10 Women’s Soccer Coach of the Year.
