CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. ?- The Arizona men’s tennis team completed its first day of play in the main draw, at the Icy Hot/ITA All-American Thursday, Oct. 7. Individually, the Wildcats sole competitor fell due to injury, but won in the doubles match.
Competing in the round of 64 was No. 29, junior Roger Matalonga. Matalonga fell to Greg Oullette of Florida 6-7 (5), 4-3, retiring due to injury in the second set.
In doubles for the Wildcats, Matalonga and his doubles partner, No. 85 senior Colin O’Grady, ended the day on a better note, defeating Marek Gebicki and Branden Olson of Montana State, 8-3.
The Wildcats continue action Friday, Oct. 8, as O’Grady and Matalonga continue play in the main round, facing John Isner and Antonio Ruiz of Georgia, with first serve expected at noon local time.
