TUCSON, Ariz. ?- The No. 15 Arizona women’s gymnastics team has been selected to its 20th-consecutive NCAA Regional Championship appearance, the NCAA announced on Monday.

The Wildcats will travel to Ames, Iowa, to compete at the North Central Regional Championships on Saturday, April 8. Host Iowa State is the region’s No. 1 seed, followed by No. 2 Arizona State, No. 3 Arizona, No. 4 Denver, No. 5 Minnesota and No. 6 Brigham Young.  Additionally, individual qualifiers from Utah State, Southern Utah and Iowa will compete.

The North Central Region is one of six regionals hosted around the country. Six teams, five all-around competitors (who are not on a qualifying team) and one individual event specialist per event [who has a minimum Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) of 9.4] were named to each of the six regions. The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors (who are not on an advancing team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships in Corvallis, Ore., April 20-22, hosted by Oregon State. In addition, the event winners at the regional championships will advance to the national championships (in that event only) if they are not part of a qualifying team or the all-around qualifiers.

The Wildcats have already faced Arizona State, Denver and BYU twice this year. The Wildcats dropped a narrow decision in a road dual-meet at Arizona State on Jan.22 (195.3-195.150), and placed just behind the Sun Devils at the Pac-10 Championships last Saturday (193.9-193.75). Arizona split with Denver in two multi-team meets this year, including a 193.85-192.925 loss on Jan. 6 and a 194.725-194.3 victory on March 10. The Wildcats have won both of their match-ups with BYU (196.3-194.575 on March 3 and 196.575-193.725 on March 18).

Last year, Arizona placed fourth at the South Central Regional Championships.
