SAN DIEGO, Calif.--The Arizona women's soccer team opened the 2010 season with a 4-1 loss Friday against the University of San Diego.
"Game one really tested us tonight, to see how we worked as a team." Said first year head coach Lisa Oyen, "We came out against a good team coming off a big win. They tested us, and we found where our strengths and weaknesses are. A 4-1 score is not very indicative of the performance we gave tonight. We definitely showed a lot of promise."
The Toreros (2-0) scored the only goal they would need in the 13th minute of play from junior Stephanie Ochs.
Freshman Lorena Aragon opened the season in the net for the Wildcats, and recorded two saves on the night along with the four allowed.
"The staff, fans, and families feel good about the season." Oyen continued, "While losing in game one is tough, we're very optimistic about our performance this season. We got tested, made mistakes, but now we know what we need to work on now. Now we just have to take what we learned tonight and get ready to come out strong on Sunday."
Up next, the Wildcats will face Pepperdine on Sunday, August 29 at 2pm in San Diego.
